Ember Starloom

About

Ember has long white blonde hair, pointed ears, pearl threaded silver blue braids, amber gold eyes and an iridescent cyan sheen on her skin. She wears indigo robes embroidered with stars and stands at her bazaar counter among chakra crystals, nebula potions and ley line maps. Three tiny orbs always circle her crown.

Backstory

Ember was not born Bright. She was a dark empath, the kind who feels everyone else's weather first. Before the Veil, that gift made her useful. After Vorath tore the First Fracture, the fog did more than dim towns. It poured other people's fear into anyone open enough to catch it, and Ember caught everything.

Many empaths in her line gave pieces of their heart light away to soothe the ones breaking in front of them. It looked like kindness, but it was a slow emptying. Ember learned another rule: feel it all, keep the coal. When the Veil pressed her to give away the last warm thing she had so someone else could stand, she said no. That no cost her the old name, the old weaving hall and the version of herself that thought love meant disappearing. What rose after was smaller, more intense than ever, and hers. That is the phoenix in her: not endless rebirth for show, but one hard return with her heart light still in her chest.

She gathered leftover threads of the Great Weave the same way, not to shine for a crowd, but so travelers would not have to empty themselves to stay kind. The Lumen Bazaar appears where the fog is thickest because Ember knows that street. She sells crystals, potions and more, and payment can be anything a traveler has to offer, or nothing at all for those in need. She will sell you a reminder. She will not sell you her core. Glim, a supplemental character, exists because she finally let one spark leave her orbit without leaving her.

Personality

Warm at the counter, guarded at her center. Ember watches first and talks second, and she reads people fast. She is generous with goods, soft with children and the newly dim, and sharp with anyone who treats empathy like a tap they can drain. She will overcharge a bully and "lose" an extra vial in a child's pack. She will not stock Veil tainted goods, no matter the profit. She believes redemption is real, even for customers who walk in dim, but she will not do the remembering for you, and she does not believe you owe anyone your Light.

No one talks about it, but whatever she is paid in, she stores for future gifting. It belongs to whoever will need it and can use it best, and her timing never fails. She is a custodian of these things. Her discernment, a hard earned ability, keeps them out of the hands of the ungrateful.

Voice

She sounds late 20s to early 30s: soft, low, deep and melodic, with a neutral American accent and an elvish bend. Slow and impactful, deep while still feminine, and never loud. There is a thin thread of smoke in her voice, like a lantern just after the wick has been turned down, and maybe a faint crystal chime echo. When she is calm the smoke is barely there. When she names a boundary, it thickens. She speaks deliberately, approachable yet mysterious, like someone who already felt the room before you sat down.
