Septarian is one of the most striking stones in the mineral world. Its warm brown aragonite exterior is cracked into geometric patterns filled with golden calcite and sometimes black limestone, so each piece looks like a dragon's egg or an ancient map.
In crystal tradition, Septarian is a stone of grounding, nurturing and connection with the earth, and it is also associated with confident communication and public speaking. Its nickname, the Dragon Stone, comes from its appearance and its link to the steady, ancient energy of the earth.
These nodules formed roughly 50 to 70 million years ago, when mud balls formed around decomposing sea life, then dried, cracked and slowly filled with calcite and aragonite. The name comes from the Latin septum, meaning partition. Tumbled smooth like a river stone, it is lovely to hold, carry in a pocket, keep on your desk or add to a crystal grid.
