An evening wind-down for the nervous system can include many doors. This teaching focuses on one door only: the last screen contact before sleep. A kind screen close is not a demand to become screen-free. It is a way to signal safety to the body by lowering brightness, ending open loops, and choosing a softer last input.
Dim light before bed
Lower screen brightness and, when possible, shift toward warmer tones. The eyes and the body read bright blue-heavy light as daytime. A dimmer screen is a small honesty about the hour you are actually in.
If notifications keep reopening the day, silence nonessential alerts for the last stretch. Reachability for true needs can remain without every app acting like an emergency.
A sound companion for this practice
Sound Asleep by Joseph Kao is a soothing guided meditation with embedded brainwave frequencies and a progressively quieter countdown, created to guide you into deeper and deeper relaxation as you drift toward sleep.

Choose a low-impact last input
Decide what the last digital contact will be: a calm message, a short article, a saved video with a natural ending, or nothing at all. Open-ended feeds are designed to continue. A chosen endpoint protects the bridge into rest.
Put the phone on a surface rather than in the bed when you can. Distance makes the next impulse slightly less automatic.
Close open loops gently
Write one line for anything the screen stirred: a task, a worry, a reply you owe. Parking the loop on paper tells the mind it does not have to rehearse all night.
If news or conflict is active, set a morning window to return. Night is rarely the best courtroom for unfinished stories.

Keep this distinct from total life redesign
This is a screen close, not a personality overhaul. Five kinder minutes still count. If sleep problems persist, seek qualified help for sleep, mood, or health rather than blaming yourself for imperfect discipline.
Let the last sensation before sleep be something bodily: water, stretch, breath, or the feel of sheets. The body remembers that the day can end.
Living this gently
When screen-close becomes a small evening devotion, gentle guided practices for nervous-system ease can sit beside it, sample only what helps you land.

Try this
- Dim the screen and warm the light if you can.
- Choose an endpoint for the last digital contact.
- Park one open loop in a single written line.
- Place the phone away from the pillow.
A kind screen close is a bridge, not a verdict. Lower the light, end one loop, and let rest become possible again.
