Coming back after an interruption
After an interruption, it can take time for attention to settle back into a task. Expecting instant refocus can lead to frustration and self criticism.
Give yourself a short re entry ritual: reread the last paragraph you wrote, take a few breaths, or jot down where you left off before an interruption happens.
Reducing interruptions helps, and so does accepting that some will occur. Gentle recovery practices make it easier to return to focused work again and again.
Create a re entry ritual
You are deep in a task when a colleague stops by with a question. Five minutes later they leave, and you stare at your screen trying to remember what you were doing. The interruption was brief, but finding your way back takes much longer.
Design a simple re entry ritual. Before any break, jot a one line note about your next step. After an interruption, take one slow breath, read your note, and reread the last few lines of your work before continuing.
Practice it for a week and notice whether returning gets easier. A small ritual can turn interruptions from derailments into brief pauses, helping attention settle back where you want it.
When you are ready for more than reading, the Quantum Breathwork series on Gaia is a gentle, optional next door. Take what helps and leave the rest.
