Small commitments, big impact

Big commitments can feel inspiring and overwhelming. Modest commitments, such as five minutes of practice or one phone call, are easier to start and maintain.

Choose commitments that fit your current capacity. Success with small commitments builds confidence and momentum.

Modest commitments require courage, too: the courage to start small and stay consistent. Over time, they can lead to meaningful change.

Start with five minutes

You want to start meditating, writing, or exercising, and you set an ambitious goal of an hour a day. After a few days, life gets busy, and the goal collapses. You feel like you failed before you began.

Choose one practice and commit to just five minutes a day for two weeks. Make it so easy that skipping it feels silly. Mark each day you do it on a calendar.

At the end of the two weeks, notice how consistent you were and how it felt. Modest commitments build momentum and confidence. You can always increase the time once the habit is established.
