A gratitude jar is just what it sounds like: a jar filled, one note at a time, with things you are thankful for. It is simple enough for kids and meaningful enough for anyone.
Getting started
- Choose any clear jar and decorate it if you like.
- Keep small slips of paper and a pen beside it.
- Pick a daily moment, such as after dinner or before bed.
The daily ritual
Each day, write one thing you are grateful for, fold it and drop it in. Be specific. "The warm tea my friend made" lands more deeply than "friends".
Opening the jar
Choose a time to read the notes, such as each new month or at the end of the year. Many families read them aloud together.
