Saying less, meaning more
When you feel misunderstood or criticized, the urge to prove yourself can produce long replies full of evidence and justification. Pause before proving. Ask what the moment actually needs from you.
Often a few clear words are enough: "I see it differently, and I am happy to talk more later." Choosing enough words, rather than every word, keeps the conversation calm and keeps your dignity intact.
Then leave room for the other person to respond. A small response invites dialogue, while a flood of explanation can feel like pressure. Restraint is not weakness. It is trust that the truth does not need to shout.
Try the two sentence reply
Someone criticizes your idea in a group chat. You feel the urge to write a long reply defending every point, citing evidence and explaining your reasoning in detail.
Next time you feel this urge, limit your reply to two sentences. Acknowledge their view and state yours simply: "I see your point. I still think this approach could work, and I am happy to discuss it more."
Notice how the conversation unfolds. Small, calm responses often de escalate tension and invite more productive dialogue than lengthy defenses.

A simple rhythm to try
Here is the whole rhythm in three steps. First, pause before proving. Then choose enough words. Finally, leave room for reply.
