The Cincinnati Meditation Group is spiritually affiliated with Self Realization Fellowship, and its spiritual teacher, or Guru, is Paramahansa Yogananda. The group gathers in Cincinnati, Ohio, for meditation services, Kriya Yoga practice and kirtan.
A light that began in 1926
On October 3rd, 1926, Paramahansa Yogananda began a lecture series in Cincinnati, and his opening address filled the city’s Music Hall. He stayed for two months, and more than 1,100 students joined his classes. Fifty years later, in 1977, forty two devotees gathered in a rented home, and the Cincinnati Meditation Group was formed. The group has met faithfully ever since, strengthening one another in the resolve to meditate regularly and deeply.
“Group meditation is a castle that protects the new spiritual aspirants as well as the veteran meditators.”
Paramahansa Yogananda, Seeking God Together
Meditating together
Services are held on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings on the second floor of The Gathering at Northern Hills, Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 460 Fleming Road, Cincinnati. Saturday services include energization exercises, meditation, reading and chanting, with time for early silent meditation beforehand. Wednesday services offer more time in silence. Kirtan, devotional chanting accompanied by music, opens the heart at special kirtan meditations, and the group also gathers for commemorative services through the year.
