Magus Books and Herbs has been provoking thought and shining light in Minneapolis, Minnesota since 1992. It is a one stop shop for magical, spiritual and herbal supplies, with new and used books, herbs, consignment goods and many other treasures.
Our story begins
Magus Books opened its doors at high noon on September 1st, 1992, with a mission to provide new and used occult, metaphysical and thought provoking books to the community at large. It grew from The Sun at Night, a catalog of founder Roger Williamson's personal library, which he published after moving from the UK to Minneapolis. Demand grew, and in the summer of 1992 Roger found a small 500 square foot space in Dinkytown. Today the shop calls Central Avenue in Minneapolis home, and Liz, who was instrumental to its success, now owns it.
All paths are welcome
From the very beginning, Magus chose not to follow one particular belief system. They honor the idea that all spiritual paths are valid, and they believe in individuality and self empowerment. Everyone has the potential to grow, connect and thrive through personal exploration, and the shop encourages customers to explore themselves, their environment and their own inner wisdom.
“Success depends largely upon how much work and inconvenience we can tolerate to realize our dreams.”
Roger Williamson, founder of Magus Books
Classes and gatherings
Alongside books and herbs, Magus hosts classes and events at the shop, including the Magus Herbal Program, Usui Reiki classes, astrology classes, Afternoon Tea and Tarot, a Free Full Moon Ritual and live concerts.
