Selenite, sometimes called satin spar, is a variety of gypsum that grows in long fibrous or flat plate like crystals, which can make it opaque or translucent. It is an extremely soft mineral and may contain small inclusions of other minerals, or internal cleaving where crystal shapes meet. These natural marks are purely cosmetic.
