Universal laws describe the quiet order that many spiritual traditions believe lies beneath everyday life: what we think, give and choose shapes what we experience. This guide gathers 105 of them from esoteric, Hermetic and mystical teachings, each explained in plain words. Read them as ideas to reflect on, not rules to fear, and take what resonates with you.

How to read this list

These principles come from many sources, including Hermetic philosophy, Theosophical and yogic teachings and modern spiritual writing. Some are widely loved, such as the laws of Karma, Attraction and Unity. Others are more obscure, and a few are very symbolic. They are spiritual beliefs, not scientific laws, and traditions often describe them in different ways. You do not need to accept all of them. A helpful way to explore is to read a few at a time, ask how each one shows up in your own life and keep what feels true and kind.

Laws 1 to 35

1. The Law of Abundance

A small tree with golden coins and jars hanging from its branches

Also called the Law of Success. This law says that picturing and welcoming abundance helps us notice and create more of it. Abundance is bigger than money. It includes rich relationships, good communication, health and spiritual peace. We can enjoy prosperity without letting possessions define us.

2. The Law of Action

A stick figure rowing a boat with arrows showing action and reaction

Gifts and good intentions come alive only through action. We often think we understand courage, love or commitment until we have to act on them. Doing turns knowing into wisdom, so make your presence felt through small, steady steps.

3. The Law of Akasha

A pale swirling circle labeled Akasha over a soft golden painting of a bearded sage

Akasha is a Sanskrit word for the subtle, all pervading essence from which things arise. This law points to a deep intelligence woven through all substance, sometimes described as a cosmic record of everything that happens.

4. The Law of Analogy

A painted face of an old man with flowing beard and a flame

Patterns repeat at different scales, so we can learn about one thing by studying another. Analogies are never exact, but they point to useful correspondences and help us grasp ideas that are hard to explain directly.

5. The Law of Ascension

A radiant meditating figure with glowing energy centers and a crown of light

This law describes raising our inner vibration, or level of awareness, as we release the sense of separation from our higher self. Ascension in this sense does not mean leaving the world. It means bringing more love into everyday life and becoming a gentle example for others.

6. The Law of Attraction

A head in profile with brain pathways and magnets drawing in bolts of energy

Many traditions teach that like attracts like, and that our focus, feelings and beliefs draw similar experiences toward us. Think of it as a call to tend your inner world, with gratitude and clear intention, while also taking real action. It is a hopeful idea, not a guarantee of results.

7. The Law of Balance or Equipoise

A winged woman in white holding scales above the clouds

Sometimes called fair exchange, this law invites balance in thought, giving and receiving. It asks us to allow other viewpoints without feeling we must defend our own, to keep our power while giving love freely and to avoid extremes, from low self esteem to a puffed up ego. Imbalance in any area, including addiction, is a sign to return to center.

8. The Law of Challenge

A split tree, half in autumn orange and half in green, beside an angel and a dark portal

This law says we may ask questions of any unseen presence that seeks to guide us, such as its intention and identity. It encourages discernment. Trust what is loving and clear, and feel free to say no to anything that is not.

9. The Law of Chemical Affinity

A diagram of an atom with electrons, protons, neutrons and a nucleus

This describes the natural attraction between elements and substances, a kind of romance of the elements that helps hold the material world together. Many see it as a picture of how attraction works at every level.

10. The Law of Cohesion

A single drop of water forming a ripple on a calm surface

Cohesion is the principle that keeps things joined together, from molecules to communities. It reminds us that there is an underlying unity and order holding creation in harmony.

11. The Law of Color

A meditating silhouette in a forest with seven glowing chakra colors

Colors are living vibrations that affect our emotions, thoughts and spirit. Some blend well together and some clash. Many people use color on purpose, through clothing, art, light and stones, to support their mood and intentions.

12. The Law of Common Ground

Two groups of colorful people holding hands on separate platforms

This is a problem solving approach in which two or more people meet in a shared space to blend their differences. It works best when the space is cleared of old tension and when everyone enters with respect and goodwill.

13. The Law of Consciousness

A glowing network of light and neurons inside a head

As our awareness expands, so do the possibilities we can see. Our understanding of good and bad, opportunity and past, present and future widens, and we become more able to respond to the needs of the moment.

14. The Law of Continuity of Consciousness

A hand drawn diagram of the Tree of Life with colored energy centers

Many teachings hold that creation is a continuous, endless process and that everything is connected through a shared consciousness. This law invites us to see our lives as part of something larger that continues.

15. The Law of Cycles

A school project poster titled Earth's Cycles with notes on day, night and seasons

Nature moves in cycles, such as day and night and the changing seasons. Clouds do not race one another, and the seasons do not push each other along. All things unfold in good time, and we can trust the rhythms of our own lives too.

16. The Law of Cyclic Return

A painting of figures rising from the sea toward a glowing doorway

Also called the wheel of reincarnation. In traditions that teach rebirth, a soul that takes on a life is believed to return again until its lessons are learned. Whatever you believe, it is a reminder to make the most of the life you have now.

17. The Law of Right to Decree (Divine Invocation)

A glowing face of light in violet and gold colors

In this teaching, those who serve others with a pure heart may invoke help from higher realms. It is said to work when the request is for the good of all and not for self serving aims. It is closely related to prayer and sincere intention.

18. The Law of Discipline

A silhouette leaping from a cliff labeled Discipline to a cliff labeled Goals

Discipline is the bridge between a dream and its fulfillment. It builds focus, skill and freedom over time. Practicing it gently, with kindness and consistency, expands us more than almost any other habit.

A person in a yellow shirt kneeling as the ground bursts apart around them

Forms must break down for something new to emerge. This law is about shedding old layers, whether habits, beliefs or identities, so the spirit can grow.

20. The Law of Divine Flow

A painted woman's face with flowing hair of orange and blue waves

When we live in the present, centered in love and in service to others, we move with the flow of our higher self. Actions then arise with less effort and more grace.

21. The Law of Divine Love and Oneness

Hands from all around reaching toward a glowing earth in the center of a rainbow web

24. The Law of Equalities (or Analogy)

A mandala with a glowing tree of life at its center

Also known as the Principle of Correspondence: "as above, so below; as below, so above." Patterns found in the heavens are mirrored on earth and within us. Studying one level of life can help us understand the others.

25. The Law of Expansion

A figure standing on a snowy peak looking up at a bright spiral galaxy

All of life grows toward greater awareness. Every being is reaching outward and upward, and our understanding gradually widens like ripples in a pond.

26. The Law of Expectation

The words Thoughts become things over a soft green background

Our assumptions and beliefs color what we notice and experience. Changing what we expect, with realism and hope, can change how we approach every part of life. Energy follows attention.

27. The Law of Faith

The words Have Faith over a mountain silhouette at dusk

We carry more wisdom within than we have read or been taught. Faith is the willingness to trust that inner knowing and to look inward, listen and act on what we sense is true.

28. The Law of Fixation

A figure sitting on a path at sunset beneath the words You are what you think

In esoteric writings, this is described as a law that fixes our focus and the form our life takes. A simpler way to hold it is that what we fix our thoughts on tends to shape the direction we take.

29. The Law of Flexibility

A yellow card reading Stay committed to your decisions but stay flexible in your approach

Accept yourself, others and the present moment instead of resisting what is. Stay committed to your path, but be willing to adjust how you walk it.

30. The Law of Forgiveness

Two silhouettes facing each other beside the words Forgiveness makes you stronger

Forgiveness lets go of the urge to get even. Holding on to an eye for an eye keeps us stuck in low, heavy feelings. To forgive is to free yourself, even if you also keep healthy boundaries and do not excuse harm.

31. The Law of Free Will, or the Law of Choice

A road sign pointing to the right way beside the words Choice of Law: Making the Right Choice

32. The Law of Gender

A chart titled Find the Balance with colorful profiles of two faces

Good intentions without action can create a false picture of ourselves. Let your actions match your aims, and notice the gap with kindness.
