A body scan is a simple way to check in with yourself from head to toe. Even a short version can help you notice tension and come back to the present. This teaching offers a body scan designed for busy days.

Where to begin with body awareness and gentle attention
- Orient to the room before turning inward and keep your eyes open if that is kinder.
- Notice one area at a time without demanding calm or a special result.
- Return to an ordinary task and let the practice be brief enough to repeat.
A two minute version you can actually use
Start at the top of your head and move slowly down: forehead, jaw, neck, shoulders, chest, belly, hips, legs, feet. Spend one easy breath at each area. You are not trying to relax anything on purpose. You are simply checking in.
If you find tension, name it plainly, such as "tight shoulders" or "clenched hands," and see whether a small adjustment feels kind. Sometimes it does. Sometimes the tension stays, and that is useful information about the day you are having.
Use the scan at natural transition points: before opening email, after a meeting, while the kettle boils, or before sleep. If attending to the body feels distressing, keep your eyes open, shorten the practice, or focus on the feet and the floor only.
Why noticing the body brings attention home
Busy days pull attention outward, toward screens, tasks, and other people's needs. The body becomes something that carries you around rather than something you live in. Tension builds quietly until it becomes impossible to ignore.
A body scan is simply the practice of moving attention through the body and noticing what is there. Picture pausing at your desk, noticing tight shoulders, a clenched jaw, cold hands. Nothing needs to be fixed in that moment. The noticing itself brings you back to the present.
This kind of awareness is not a medical practice. It is a way of listening. Over time, regular check ins can help you recognize early signals of tiredness or stress, so you can respond with care before things pile up.
