Giving conversations space

Some conversations feel rushed, with little room for thought between replies. Notice the pace, especially when the topic matters.

Pause without withdrawing. You can say, "Let me think about that," or simply allow a few seconds of silence. Pausing is not leaving the conversation. It is making room for a better response.

Return with care. Thoughtful replies tend to land better, and conversations that breathe often become deeper and more honest.

Try the pause phrase

In a heated discussion, replies come fast, and you feel pressure to respond immediately. The conversation becomes more tense with each exchange.

Prepare a pause phrase: "Let me think about that for a moment." Use it the next time a conversation feels rushed, and take a few breaths before continuing.

Notice how slowing down affects the conversation. Pauses can make space for more thoughtful and caring responses.
