Closing open loops

Unfinished tasks, unanswered messages, and unresolved decisions create mental clutter. Each open loop quietly asks for attention, even when you are trying to rest.

Make a list of your open loops. For each, decide on the next action, schedule it, delegate it, or consciously let it go. Even deciding to drop something closes the loop.

Ending loops brings relief and clarity. A few minutes of closure each day can free mental space for creativity, connection, and genuine rest.

A fifteen minute loop sweep

Open loops pile up quietly: a friend's message you meant to answer, a return you meant to mail, a decision about a weekend trip, a leaky faucet. Each one asks for a sliver of attention, and together they can leave the mind feeling crowded even at rest.

Set a timer for fifteen minutes and list every open loop you can think of. Then go down the list and give each one a fate: do it now if it takes under two minutes, schedule it, hand it to someone else, or consciously decide to drop it.

When the timer ends, notice how your mind feels. Many people experience a real lightness after a loop sweep. Repeating it once a week can keep mental clutter from building up again.
