Focusing on one task

Multitasking often reduces quality and increases stress. Staying with one thing, one task, one conversation, one moment, can improve focus and satisfaction.

Choose a single task and give it your full attention for a set time. Remove distractions, and gently return when your mind wanders.

Staying with one thing is a skill that grows with practice. It can make work more efficient and life more meaningful, as you experience each moment more fully.

Try single tasking meals

Eating while scrolling, working, or watching TV is common. The food disappears without being tasted, and the mind never fully rests. Meals can become one more moment of divided attention.

For one meal each day this week, eat without screens or reading. Notice the colors, smells, textures, and flavors. If eating with others, give them your full attention. When your mind wanders, gently return to the meal.

Notice how these meals feel compared to distracted ones. Practicing staying with one thing in a simple, daily activity can strengthen your ability to focus in other areas of life.
