Enjoying good things without losing your footing

When something good happens, a new relationship, a success, an exciting opportunity, it is easy to get swept up. Enjoy it, and also keep your feet on the ground.

Maintain your routines, relationships, and values. Continue caring for the basics of life even as new things arrive.

Grounded enjoyment helps good things last. It allows you to appreciate blessings without losing perspective or balance.

Keep your anchors

After landing a new job or starting a new relationship, it is easy to get swept up. You stop seeing old friends, skip your usual routines, and pour all your energy into the new thing.

List three anchors that keep you grounded: a weekly call with a friend, a regular exercise class, a Sunday morning routine. Commit to keeping them even as exciting new things enter your life.

Notice how the anchors help you enjoy the good thing without losing your balance. Grounded joy tends to last longer and feel more sustainable.
