Why open space helps
Overfilled schedules, cupboards, and minds leave little room for rest, surprises, or new ideas. When everything is full, even a small disruption can feel like a crisis.
Try leaving deliberate gaps: an open hour in the afternoon, an empty shelf, a quiet evening each week. Resist the urge to fill every space as soon as it appears.
Room creates flexibility. It lets you help a friend on short notice, follow a creative impulse, or simply breathe. A little emptiness often makes life feel fuller.
Clear one shelf
Your closets are full, your calendar is full, and your mind feels full. When something new arrives, a gift, an opportunity, an idea, there is nowhere to put it.
Choose one physical space to clear this week: a shelf, a drawer, a corner of a room. Leave it empty on purpose. Notice how it feels to have space that is not immediately filled.
Consider how the same idea might apply to your time or attention. Leaving room creates flexibility and calm, and it can make space for good things you did not plan.
