Making room for hope

After disappointments, it is common to brace for bad news. Notice the opening when something good might happen: a new opportunity, a kind gesture, a hopeful sign.

Let hope be specific. Instead of vague optimism, name what you hope for and why. Specific hope feels grounded rather than fragile.

Receive without gripping. Enjoy good news when it comes, without fearing its loss. Leaving room for good news helps you notice and appreciate it more fully.

Write a specific hope

After a string of disappointments, you stop hoping for anything, thinking it will protect you from further letdowns. Yet good things still happen, and you barely notice them.

Write down one specific hope for the coming month. It could be small, like a good conversation with a friend, or larger, like a positive response to an application. Read it each morning.

At the end of the month, reflect on what happened. Did the hope come true, partially or fully? Did you notice other good things along the way? Leaving room for good news helps you receive it.

Stand at the edge until the next room reveals its name.
