One small step at a time

Big goals can feel so large that the mind freezes. Start by seeing what is genuinely possible right now, given the time, energy, and resources you actually have today, not the ones you wish you had.

Then make the step smaller than feels necessary. If writing a book feels impossible, write one paragraph. If daily exercise feels hard, walk to the end of the street and back. Small enough steps get taken.

Begin, and let each step become evidence. A paragraph written or a walk taken proves that movement is possible. Trust grows from that evidence, step by step, far more reliably than from motivation alone.

Shrink one goal

You want to get fit, but every time you think about it, you picture daily hour long workouts. The size of the goal makes it impossible to start, and weeks go by without any movement.

Choose one goal and shrink the next step until it feels almost too easy: put on walking shoes, walk to the corner and back, do five squats. Do that step today.

Tomorrow, take the next small step. After a week, notice how much you have done. Small steps build momentum and trust in your ability to keep going.
