Booking your first Reiki session can feel exciting and a little mysterious. Knowing what usually happens helps you relax and simply receive.
Before you go
Wear soft, comfortable clothing. You stay fully dressed for Reiki. Drink some water, eat lightly, and arrive a few minutes early so you are not rushing. If you have a question or an intention, bring it. Something as simple as "I would like to feel more settled" is enough.
On the table
Most sessions begin with a short conversation. Then you lie down or sit in a chair while the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above areas such as the head, shoulders, heart and feet. Many sessions last between thirty and sixty minutes. Quiet music is common, and you are always welcome to ask for a pause or a change.
What people often notice
Experiences vary. Some people describe warmth, gentle tingling or waves of calm. Others drift close to sleep, and some notice very little in the moment and feel more rested later in the day. There is no right way to experience a session.
Gentle aftercare
Give yourself an easy evening if you can. Drink water, take a short walk, and jot down anything you noticed. Reiki is a relaxation practice that can sit alongside, never in place of, care from your doctor or therapist.
