In downtown Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Clary & Sage Apothecary is a small, family-run corner apothecary where the shelves are stocked the old way, by people who know what's on them. More than fifty bulk herbs, herbal blends by the cup, dressed candles, crystals, oddities and goods made right in the shop all live under one roof at 1010 Porter Avenue.
Meet Brandi
Clary & Sage began during the pandemic, started by owner Brandi St. Cyr out of the trunk of her car. From a single vendor booth in Pascagoula it grew into a storefront of its own, now nestled in the heart of downtown Ocean Springs. The shop was established in 2020, and its guiding values are curiosity, kindness, belonging and reverence for nature.
Step inside and you'll find the goods tucked among restored 1930s pharmacy cabinets from the old Lovelace Pharmacy, holding herbs, crystals and candles. The shop believes in education over mystery. Everyone, from the first-time tea drinker to the lifelong herbalist, is welcome to ask questions, slow down and stay awhile.
What you will find at Clary & Sage
The shelves hold bulk herbs, blends and resins for teas, tinctures and salves, house herbal blends sold by the cup, and candles dressed by hand with herbs and essential oils and charged with intention. There are hand-selected crystals for grounding and altar work, including pieces from a local artisan, plus hand-prepared tinctures and charged waters such as moon water, snow water and Mars water.
Curiosities, antiques and vintage finds sit alongside jewelry, art and one-of-a-kind gifts. Most of what the shop carries is made right there in the shop, alongside a handful of trusted Gulf Coast makers and artists, and many items can also be ordered online.
Readings, clearings and ceremonies
By appointment or at the counter, Clary & Sage offers home and space clearing to reset the energy of a home or workspace, personal rune castings for insight, guidance and reflection, and traditional tea leaf readings, with your cup read leaf by leaf. The shop also provides alternative minister services for weddings, handfastings, ceremonies and other life milestones, and its G.H.O.S.T.S. Walking Tours explore the haunted history of Ocean Springs on a guided evening walk.
How Clary & Sage helps the world
Community is the heart of the shop's practice. Each year Clary & Sage hosts four seasonal gatherings: Voodoo & Vaudeville in January, Midsummer Night Faire in April, a Pride Market in June and Krampus Night Market in December. It also holds monthly community classes and recurring makers markets that gather Gulf Coast growers and craftspeople, so neighbors can shop home-grown.
The shop describes itself as one of the only brick-and-mortar metaphysical, oddities and vintage shops in all of Mississippi, and as a warm, welcoming sanctuary where everyone has a place at the table. One Google reviewer quoted on its site put it simply:
