Clear beats perfect

When you need to share difficult news or set a limit, it is tempting to craft the perfect explanation that will make everyone understand and agree. Start instead by naming the main fact.

Keep the message kind and short. "I will not be able to join the trip this year. I will miss you all." Clear, warm words are easier to hear than long justifications.

Let enough be enough. You cannot control how others respond, and more explanation rarely changes that. Clarity gives everyone something solid to work with.

Write the short version

You need to tell your team about a change in plans. You spend hours crafting the perfect message, anticipating every question and objection.

Write the shortest clear version of your message first: the main fact, the reason in one sentence, and what happens next. Send that version, and answer questions as they come.

Notice how people respond. Clear, concise messages are often easier to understand and act on than long explanations.

Here is the whole rhythm in three steps. First, name the main fact. Then keep the message kind. Finally, let enough be enough.
