Crystal Reiki: Pairing Stones With Energy Work

Crystal Reiki combines the gentle, hands-on energy of Reiki with the traditional qualities associated with crystals and stones. Practitioners place stones on or around the body, often one on each chakra, and then offer Reiki, believing the crystals help focus, amplify and hold the intention of the session. Clear quartz is traditionally seen as an amplifier, amethyst as calming, rose quartz as heart-opening and black tourmaline as grounding. Science has not shown that crystals have healing powers, so we approach crystal Reiki as a beautiful, intentional ritual that many people find deeply relaxing and meaningful.

Stones are patient teachers. Paired with loving hands, they help us slow down and listen.

Stones for each chakra

• Root: red jasper or black tourmaline, between the feet or at the base of the spine
• Sacral: carnelian, on the lower belly
• Solar plexus: citrine or tiger eye, on the upper belly
• Heart: rose quartz or green aventurine, on the center of the chest
• Throat: amazonite or blue tiger eye (hawk's eye), at the collarbones
• Third eye: amethyst or labradorite, on the forehead
• Crown: clear quartz or selenite, just above the head

A simple crystal Reiki session

1. Cleanse your stones with smoke, sound, moonlight or a selenite plate.
2. Set an intention for the session.
3. Lie down and place the stones from root to crown.
4. Begin with gassho and three slow breaths.
5. Offer Reiki, or simply rest your hands, over each stone in turn, from crown to root or root to crown, for one to two minutes each.
6. Rest for five minutes with all stones in place.
7. Remove the stones in reverse order, from crown to root, and ground yourself.
8. Cleanse the stones again and give thanks.

Care notes

• Use smooth, tumbled stones on the body.
• Keep small stones away from children and pets.
• Some stones, like selenite and malachite, should not be soaked in water.
