A sound bath is a relaxing session where you lie or sit comfortably while a practitioner plays bowls, gongs and other instruments. A little preparation helps you and everyone around you settle in.

What to bring

  • Comfortable, warm clothing and socks
  • A yoga mat, blanket or small pillow if the host asks you to bring one
  • A water bottle
  • An eye pillow or scarf if you like darkness

Before it starts

  • Arrive a little early so you can set up quietly.
  • Silence your phone and put it away.
  • Let the host know if you need a chair or extra support.
  • Choose a spot and keep a little space around you.

During the session

Stay as still and quiet as feels comfortable. It is fine to shift position, and it is fine if you drift off. Avoid touching the instruments unless the host invites you to.

Afterward

Take your time getting up, sip some water and pack up softly so others can stay in the quiet. Many people like to journal a few words before heading home.

Bring the sound home
