How better questions change conversations
Vague questions often bring vague answers. "How are things?" invites "fine," while "What has been the hardest part of your week?" invites a real conversation.
Before asking, take a moment to name what you really want to know. Then phrase it specifically and kindly.
Clear questions can transform work meetings, family talks, and inner reflection. They bring focus, reduce misunderstanding, and help people feel genuinely seen.
Upgrade your daily questions
At dinner, you ask your family, "How was your day?" and hear "fine" three times. The question is kind but so broad that it is easy to answer without thinking.
This week, try more specific questions: "What made you laugh today?" "What was the hardest part of your day?" "What are you looking forward to tomorrow?" Use one at each meal or conversation.
Notice how the answers change. Clear, specific questions often open real conversations and help people feel more seen. The same approach works for questions you ask yourself.
