A lamp lets a stone glow from within. In the evening its warm light can make any room feel more like a sanctuary.

Three kinds of glow

Himalayan salt lamps give a warm amber or pink light. Selenite lamps glow a soft milky white. Gemstone lamps, such as amethyst, rose quartz, clear quartz and citrine trees, sparkle with the color of their stones.

Where to place a lamp

Try a bedside table for winding down, a reading nook, a meditation corner or a shelf near the entry so the home greets you with light. A dimmer helps you match the glow to the hour.

Simple care

  • Salt naturally draws moisture from the air. Keep salt lamps away from humid bathrooms, set them on a coaster, and wipe with a dry cloth.
  • Keep selenite dry. Dust it with a soft brush or dry cloth.
  • Check cords and bulbs from time to time and use the bulb size the lamp was made for.
  • Switch lamps off when you leave the house.

An evening light ritual

As the sun sets, switch off the bright overhead lights and turn on your lamp. Take three slow breaths and let the softer light mark the shift into evening.

Questions people ask

Why is my salt lamp wet?
Salt draws moisture from humid air. Keep it out of damp rooms, set it on a coaster and wipe it dry.

Can selenite lamps get wet?
No. Selenite softens in water, so dust it with a dry cloth or soft brush.

Where should I put a crystal lamp?
A bedside table, reading nook, meditation corner or entry shelf are all lovely spots.
