Daily Light Check In: how is my heart, what do I need, one aligned yes
An original Infused Lights teaching diagram.

Imagine pausing for one minute before opening your laptop. You put a hand on your chest and ask yourself, "How am I, really?" Maybe the answer is tired. Maybe it is hopeful. Maybe it is anxious about a meeting. Whatever it is, you now know something you did not know a minute ago, and your day can respond to it. That is the small ritual of checking in.

Why we skip it

Many of us move from task to task without ever asking how we are. We notice only when stress becomes a headache, or sadness becomes tears at an unexpected moment. Checking in can feel unnecessary when life is busy, yet it is exactly when life is busy that it helps most.

Three simple questions

A check in does not need to be complicated. Try these three questions. How is my heart? Notice your emotions without judging them. What do I need? Maybe rest, food, connection, movement, or quiet. What is one aligned yes? Choose one small action that honors what you noticed. That is all.

When to check in

Anchor the ritual to something you already do: waking up, your first cup of tea, sitting in the car before driving, or lying down at night. Linking it to an existing habit makes it easier to remember. Some people like a morning and evening check in. Start with whichever feels most natural.

Checking in with others

The same ritual can strengthen relationships. Ask a partner, friend, or family member, "How are you, really?" and listen without rushing to fix. Sharing your own honest answer invites them to do the same. Small check ins build trust over time.

Let it stay small

The power of this ritual is its simplicity. You do not need a journal, an app, or a long reflection. One minute and three questions are enough. On busy days, even a single breath and "How am I?" counts.

Try this

  1. Choose an existing habit to anchor your check in.
  2. Ask, "How is my heart?" and name one feeling.
  3. Ask, "What do I need?" and name one need.
  4. Choose one small aligned action for today.
  5. Try it daily for a week and notice any difference.

A tiny check in can change the day.
