Steel is the chief ship engineer and mechanic of The Nexus Ark.
Gruff on the outside and loyal to the core, he keeps the ships, and the people who fly them, safe.
About Steel
Steel is a Forgeborn, a rare race of living forge elementals. He is massive and powerfully built, with dark, cracked metallic rock skin and glowing molten orange lines running across his body like living lava veins. He is completely bald, with a thick, full graying beard, prominent pointed elf ears, and eyes that glow with intense orange light. He wears a heavy, worn leather work apron with the Nexus Ark insignia on the chest, and when he works, sparks and embers float around him while the glowing lines on his body pulse brighter with heat and effort.
He has spent most of his long life working with metal, heat, and complex machinery, and he joined The Nexus Ark because it gave him access to the most advanced ships and technology he had ever seen. He sees keeping the ships, and the people who fly them, safe as his personal responsibility. His quarters and workshop are filled with tools, spare parts, half finished projects, and the constant sound of hammering or welding: messy, but highly functional.
Steel is gruff and straightforward on the outside, with a genuinely warm and loyal heart. He does not talk much unless he has something meaningful to say, and he shows he cares through actions rather than words, like quietly fixing someone’s ship overnight or checking in on younger crew members without making a big deal of it. Around people he trusts, out comes a deep, hearty laugh.

Chief engineer of The Nexus Ark
Steel is responsible for repairing, upgrading, and maintaining all spacecraft and critical station systems aboard The Nexus Ark. He is a master engineer with deep knowledge of ship systems, his Forgeborn body gives him enhanced strength and durability, and he can generate and control heat to aid in forging and repairs. He is also highly skilled at reading the personality of machines and sensing when something feels off.
He starts out preferring machines over people. Over time, he becomes more openly caring toward the crew and learns to express his loyalty and concern more directly instead of only through his work. He also helps train and mentor younger engineers and pilots.
Steel and the wider cast
Characters whose pages connect with Steel: Jax Riven, for whom he is a tough but caring mentor figure, and Helix Vey, who often works with him when grid systems need physical integration into ships. He also respects Rax Sol’s leadership and works closely with him on mission preparation.
