Ayurveda, the traditional healing system of India, teaches that everything is made of five elements: space, air, fire, water and earth. In the body and mind, these combine into three doshas, or functional energies. Vata (space and air) governs movement. Pitta (fire and water) governs transformation and digestion. Kapha (earth and water) governs structure and stability. Each person is born with a unique blend called prakriti, often with one or two doshas leading. Knowing your elemental type can help you choose foods, routines and practices that keep you feeling balanced through the seasons.
You are made of the same elements as the stars and the soil. Ayurveda helps you live in harmony with them.

A simple dosha quiz
Choose the answer that has been most true for you most of your life.
- My body frame is... (a) slim and light (b) medium and athletic (c) solid and sturdy
- My skin tends to be... (a) dry (b) warm or sensitive (c) smooth and oily
- My appetite is... (a) irregular (b) strong, I get "hangry" (c) steady, I can skip meals
- Under stress I become... (a) anxious or scattered (b) irritable or critical (c) withdrawn or stubborn

Mostly (a): Vata. Mostly (b): Pitta. Mostly (c): Kapha. A mix means you are dual-dosha, which is very common.

A gentle note
A gentle note: Ayurveda is a complete medical system, and dosha quizzes are only a starting point. Some Ayurvedic herbal products have been found to contain heavy metals, so choose carefully. For health concerns or before using Ayurvedic herbs, please check with a trusted practitioner.
